The most primary thing you need form your snowboarding jacket is rather merely that it keeps you arid all day long. If it does not one thing else but that, then you have more chance of enjoying your day on the mountain because you aren’t wet and miserable! Snowboarding jackets, in the main, are all waterproof… nonetheless not all jackets are formulated equal… galore are more waterproof than others! I can’t tell you the amount of times that I have seen humans retreat to their hotel after just a few hours, solely due to that fact that they are wet and cold, due in no little share to the latest jacket they purchased which regrettably had more style than substance. Truth is, that for most riding, you don’t have to spend a fortune to find a selection of good quality snowboarding jackets that still look great. Just make sure that you check the tech specs, and go for a jacket that gives you a minimum of 10,000 mm of waterproofness. Personally I’d steer clear of anything under that and whatsoever you do, don’t ever buy a jacket that is merely just ‘water resistant’. Without too much persuasion, they don’t protest the water for very long. For the extreme shelter go for a GORE-TEX fabric. For those that want to know, they protect to 26,000 mm of waterproofness, the most you may get in a snowboarding jacket. For those that don’t know, these figures mean that you may stand a column of water 26 m high before the shell lets water through – a 10,000 mm jacket, would start out to let water come through at 10m high. The other thing that you need to take into considerateness is how breathable your new snowboarding jacket is. When you exercise, you perspire, but with snowboarding, you are wearing a jacket that is attempting keeping the parts out, which also makes it difficult for your sweat to leave your body. If it doesn’t escape, you get wet from the inside, and then what is the point of a waterproof jacket! The best jackets are the ones that are highly breathable, and this is where the GORE-TEX fabrics win hands down. I have ridden in all kinds of jackets and I may say without any reservation that I would not ride anything that wasn’t GORE-TEX. Not only are they great at keeping the parts out but they make riding so much more comfortable because they let the sweat out better than any other fabric, and in my modest sentiment that makes my day in the snow so much more gratifying because I’m comfortable all day long. A great snowboarding jacket is never going to be cheap, but if you make the sacrifice and buy a quality jacket, you will never regret it.
